"THIS GENERATION" 1984 Watchtower Making Holding Fast To False Prophecy Of 1914 In 2010 the Watchtower told Jehovah's Witnesses they must start believing and teaching something very different and confusing or difficult to believe.  Previously Watchtower had said that the Generation of people alive in 1914 were definitely going to see The End of the world with Armageddon and then a Paradise come upon earth.  As of 2010, though, JWs had to believe and teach that the "Generation" of people who would see the end was not the people alive in 1914 but rather people who had seen the Generation of 1914.  In contrast most all other students of the Bible as individuals and also most groups believe that Christ chiefly meant his own generation although there will be a greater fulfill when he returns.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJIl7GYjrxY&feature=player_embedded

THIS GENERATION AND THE “GOOD” NEWS NOT THE “GLOOMY” NEWS At Matthew 24, also Mark 13 and Luke 21, Christ said that later on “this generation” would not pass away until the great Temple in Jerusalem fell, wars, earthquakes, and persecution of Christians occurred.  The Roman army later destroyed the Temple, there were wars, earthquakes and persecution of Christians. Indeed Romans slaughtered many Jews in Jerusalem, destroyed genealogical records which had made clear who members of the Jewish priesthood were, and most surviving Jews and Christians moved away throughout the Roman Empire.  So indeed the world, in the sense of social structure not the entire planet, ended for those alive in the generation of Christ. However, Christ also told the apostles that his return would be seen as when lightning goes from east to west.  The sun would be made dark and the moon would not shine.  Stars would fall from the sky, and heavenly bodies would be shaken.  People would see that Christ was returning and nations would mourn.  Christ would come on the clouds with power and great glory.  He would send his angels to gather those whom he had chosen from all directions. These other events have not all literally happened, although some have pointed out that they have spiritually happened or might have spiritually happened.  In fact many Christians believe they are happening or about to happen now or in the not too distant future.  Regardless, Christ said, true Christians are not afraid when they see similar or identical events. True Christians stay joyful, very positive and focused on showing true love for example by helping family, friends and others.  They are interested and try to stay alert to such events but they do not become so worried about doomsday that they try to make other people also become worried and scared.  Let us remember that Christ also pointed out that nobody except the Father really knows exactly when the end will be.  The verses in which Christ spoke of The End are relatively only a small part of Christ’s entire life which instead show him teaching people, feeding and healing them.  There are positive, negative and middle-of-the-road Christians.  Which was Christ?  He was not negative, was he?  He certainly wasn’t average!  Therefore he was very positive.  He knew and taught about the power of God, the “Good” News of the kingdom.  We must do the same for otherwise we are not like Christ.  We teach the Good News not the Gloomy News.

In 1995 they changed it to read " "This magazine builds confidencein the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things."

She tried to state that the generation teaching was not 'new light.'  However, in the margin, there were five bullet points about keeping up with 'increased light.'  One of them spoke about the time when the calling of Christians to the heavenly hope ended.  I mentioned 1935 and she stated that that year was brought up at the meeting by someone (obviously someone who's been in the 'truth' for a while). I was taking the stance of someone who was questioning the doctrine without outright denouncing it.  She pulled up 'Christ’s Presence—What Does It Mean to You?' from her WT CD-ROM and wanted me to read it in its entirety.
