INFORMATION PICKETING DONE OUT OF AND WITH LOVING
CONCERN
For effective picketing, check as soon as you can in advance, to
see whatever laws may be applicable in your own area(s). For example you may inquire at a city hall and with police.
For example, sometimes there may be rules about how far from a convention site you can be, noise volume, or the time(s) when
it is permissible. If you are not able to picket upon convention property, you should normally be able to picket upon
an adjoining public sidewalk.
If you will be picketing for all or much of the day, take adequate and, if possible
some extra food and water. Also dress appropriately for inclement weather and insects. If possible take a
camera that can take not only still photos but motion pictures with sound. A first aid kit may be helpful if, for example,
you or a colleague get stung by a wasp. Consider also the possibility of mosquitoes etc. Do alert friendly
news media (newspaper and TV reporters) so that they can come and thus get your message to an even larger audience.
Loud, rowdy picketing is not desirable as it makes you fit Watchtower's assertion that those disagreeing about
its doings are all "hateful" and "bitter," which we know isn't true. (In fact some have alleged
that at times Watchtowerites have themselves sometimes dressed up and pretended to be unruly picketers.)
Some say that better than modified informational picketing and some other informational
methods work even better. For example, you can put paper posters signs in the back window of a car/truck/van
and drive around a convention site so that the sign messages can be read. Leaflets can also be effective.
If it is allowed, you could put a Yard Sign up that has your message.
Another possibility is to walk along a public
sidewalk holding up a posterboard with your message. In your pocket, purse, etc could be some leaflets. If there
are at least two of you, you may walk with an extra long banner stretched out for even easier long-distance viewing.
Messages appear most effective when they are large enough to read from a distance, not too cramped or jumbled upon the informational
sign. For example, you could (and certainly have my permission) have signs with "CHRISTIANWITNESSES.COM" which
is a single world and easy to remember. Those JWs who see it will remember it and can come straight here to learn lots
of information.
Following are some examples of signs on boards, T-shirt, etc. Hopefully by looking them over
they will give you additional good ideas. Act in love and truth; have signs that show love and truth so that more JWs
can exit, have their lives become happier.
Actually a poster board with a single word which
is therefore easy to remember and go to is probably best:
True, as seen here, others like much more attention-grabbing
costumes and word-filled signs. However, ask yourself, which kind of poster message and messengers would you yourself
like and remember best if you were a JW at a kingdom hall or convention? Someone walking quietly holding a poster with
a single easy to remember website word, or people dressed up as in a drama with signs that have many words?
